Yashima Gakutei (birth and death unknown) is an ukiyo-e artist and gesaku artist from the Edo period.
A student of Hokkei Uoya and Hokusai Katsushika. His surname is Yashima and his real surname is Sugawara. The popular name is Maruya Axichi. Born in Edo as a concubine of Mr. Hirata, a vassal of the shogunate, his mother was married to Mr. Yashima with a young Harunobu to avoid the jealousy of his wife, and it is said that he was adopted by Mr. Yashima. It is said that he lived in Aoyama Midorigaoka, Nandenmacho, Ningyocho, Nihonbashi Sakamotocho, etc. He has been fond of painting since he was a child, and at first he learned from Tsutsumi Akiei, but later became a student of Hokkei Uoya, and is said to have learned directly from Katsushika Hokusai. He also learned Kyoka from Takeshi Madomura and Masamochi Ishikawa.
