Utagawa Yoshimori

Yoshimori Utagawa (Yoshimori Utagawa, 1st year of Tenpo <1830> --- October 5, 1885> was an ukiyo-e artist from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period.

A student of Kuniyoshi Utagawa. The surname is Miki or Taguchi, and the first name is Sakuzo. Utagawa was named as the painting surname, and was named Ikkosai, Kosai, Sakamori, Sakurabo, Sakuranbo, etc. He first lived in Shitaya Hirokoji and then in Ikenohata Kayamachi, but later moved to Yokohama Negishi.

From an early age, he entered Kuniyoshi's gate and drew warrior paintings, timely paintings, and bird-and-flower paintings that closely followed Kuniyoshi's style of painting, and was particularly good at battle paintings that satirized Kuniyoshi. In addition, from Kaei 3 (1850) to Kaei 4 (1851), he also drew illustrations of Kusazoshi. From Man'en to Bunkyu (1860-1864), there are works of Yokohama-e such as "Figure of Egirisu people", "Five countries", "List of Minatozaki Yokohama", but "Tohto famous place" and other sightseeing tours in Edo city. There aren't many paintings of foreigners other than Yoshimori. He also participated in the collaborative works "Gojo Raku Tokaido" and "Suehiro 53 Stations". Later, in middle age, he was associated with Hattori Hayama, Yazuru-an, Kawanabe Kyosai, and others, and was named Miki Kosai, and also worked on Nanga. In the series of three large-format nishiki-e prints produced in the first year of the Genji era (1864), "Old Banashi Tongue Kirijaku", the fairy tale of the Tongue Kirijaku was tentatively drawn, and it became inferior as seen on the left side. It is a caricature in which youkai mean Choshu. Examples of picture books include Kaei's "Yoshishi Meiden" and "Knee Kurige Fun Sougami".
