Utagawa Yoshifuji

Utagawa Yoshifuji (Bunsei 11 <1828> --Meiji 20 <1887>) is an ukiyo-e artist from the Edo period to the Meiji period.

A student of Kuniyoshi Utagawa. His real surname is Nishimura and his first name is Fujitaro. It is called Ippengsai in honor of Utagawa's painting surname. From around the first year of Man'en (1860), it was called Yoshifuji. At first, he lived in Haruki-cho, Hongo, but later moved to Asakusa Kojima-cho, and later moved to Asakusa Kita-Sansuji-cho 58 from the 16th year of the Meiji era to the 20th year of the Meiji era. During the Bunkyu period from Kaei, he drew Yokohama-e, Bijin-ga, Samurai paintings such as "Musha-e", and Measles paintings. He also draws many children's drawings such as group paintings, toy paintings, Sugoroku "Tokyo Tsukiji Hotel Kanzu", and kaika-e paintings. Yoshifuji did a polite work in toy painting and was called "Toy Yoshifuji". However, since this toy picture was used by children and was thrown away after playing, most of them disappeared and very few are left to date. 60 years old.
