The first Utagawa Kunimasa (Shodai Utagawa Kunimasa, around Anei 2 <1773>-November 30, 1810 ) was an ukiyo-e artist in the late Edo period.

The name was Jinsuke Sato and the issue was Ichijusai. Born in Oku Aizu (Fukushima Prefecture). At first, he was a dyeing craftsman at Konya, but he liked acting and was skillful in caricatures of actors, so he became a subordinate of the first Utagawa Toyokuni. It is said that he was the first disciple of Toyokuni. It is said that he made his debut with a work based on the theme from the stage in November 1795, but since there is a description in the yellow cover "Old Cooking Tanuki Suimono" that the caricature of national affairs was well-established, the painting industry The start of may be traced back slightly. Lives in Yoshicho, Horiecho, Ichigaya Sauchi Sakagami, etc. The national affairs showed the modernity of drawing the objects in shades of shades in the actor's paintings and adding a three-dimensional effect to the combination of two-dimensional colors.

The activity period is about 10 years. However, most of the works were published over a four-year period from Kansei 8 (1796) to Kansei 11 (1799). Although it is said that he has a talent that surpasses his teacher (Supplementary Ukiyo-e), he retired around the 3rd year of Bunka (1806), and started selling Kabuki actors (not existing). There are about 120 prints left. The play picture book "Actor Dressing Room Dori" (edited by Shikitei Sanba), which was drawn in 1799 with his teacher Toyokuni, is known.
