Tsuruoka Rosui

Tsuruoka Rosui (birth and death unknown) is an ukiyo-e artist in the middle and late Edo period.

Master system unknown. Known as Kinji. It is called Midori Matsusai. He lived in Kanasugi, Shitaya, Edo, and was active from Tenmei (1781-1789) to Bunsei (1818-1830). He is known as the author of his masterpiece "List of both banks of the Sumida River in Tohto" (Toko Sawada and Toko) published in the first year of Tenmei (1781) (described later). In addition, the colored picture book "Kasen Hyakunishikishu" published in 1782 (Tenmei 2) is also known, and this work is a picture book with the words of Kasen (Haiku) added to the hundreds of autumn leaves.

"List of both banks of the Sumida River in the eastern capital" is a hand-colored woodblock scroll (or orihon) that depicts the east and west banks of the Sumida River in two volumes. Inui-maki (Higashi-maki) goes up the river from Eiyobashi, where the kite went up in the New Year, and Fukagawaji-cho, Shinohashi, Ichitsume Benten, Ekoin, Ryogokuhashi in the summer crowded with people, and Tada Yakushido in the autumn leaves. Okawabashi (Azumabashi), Senju Ohashi and Mt. Tsukuba in the snowy landscape are photographed. Maki (Nishimaki) goes down the river from the vicinity of Masaki Inari (Ishihama Shrine), Imado Town, Imado tiles where smoke rises, Shinyoshihara and Kongousan Seitengu in the distant view, Hanakawado Town, Sensoji Temple, Okawabashi, Sakurano It ends in Ueno, Ryogoku Bridge in the rain, Shinohashi Bridge, Nakasu with fireworks, Eidai Bridge and Tsukuda Island in autumn colors, and Fuji covered with snow. The dry volume contains 2 titles and 10 pictures, and the gon volume contains 18 pictures and 2 scarlet texts. The engraving of the entire volume was made by engraving only the black lines by Kekage Sekine, and adding several colors of brushstrokes on top of it.
