Tomioka Eisen (Eisen Tomioka, March 23, 1864 --- August 3, 1905) is an ukiyo-e artist and Japanese painter in the Meiji era. During the Meiji era, he had a reputation with Toshikata Mizuno and Takeuchi Keishū, and was particularly well-received for his glamorous bijin-ga. Kobayashi Eitaku's master. Known as Shutaro. It is called Asai.

Born in Yasumachi, Matsushiro Castle, Shinano Province (currently Matsushiromachi, Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture) as the sixth son of Yoshiyama Tomioka (Jinroku), a feudal lord of Matsushiro. My father was also a painter called "Strange Snow".

At first, he taught himself painting, and while working as a drafting worker at the Army General Staff in his youth, he learned Ukiyo-e with Kobayashi Eitaku at the age of 18, and called him Eisen Asai. Besides painting, he also illustrated magazines and gained a reputation for his gorgeous beauty paintings. The style of painting is said to have formed a typical example of the fashion at that time, and it also influenced Kiyokata Kaburagi later. After the death of Kobayashi Eitaku, he resigned from his official post and began to concentrate on painting from 1890. He specializes in genre painting, and joined "Miyako Shinbun" to draw illustrations for serialized novels every day as an illustrator. It was so popular that the sales of newspapers were very different. Eisen's bewitching beauty paintings are said to have been since Utamaro Kitagawa, but he was also known for drawing unique characters, whether historical or modern. In addition to "Miyako Shinbun", I also drew illustrations for the magazine "Genre Painting".
