Hokuba Hokuba (Hokuba, Meiwa 7 (1770)-August 6, 1844 (September 17, 1844)) is an ukiyo-e artist in the late Edo period.
A student of Katsushika Hokusai. Among Hokusai's disciples, he is listed first and is considered to be the best of both worlds along with Hokkei Uoya. The surnames are Arisaka, Hoshino, and the popular name Gorohachi.諱 is light shade. It is called Hosai, Shunsai, Shuntei, Akien, etc.
Born in Edo, he was born in the family of a poor gokenin living in Kanda, Okachimachi, Shitaya (currently Taito, Taito-ku). However, he felt cramped as a samurai, and by the first year of the Bunsei era (1818), he handed over the family to his younger brother and retired and left the house. The time of introduction is unknown, but since Kitama's first edition of "Kyoka Kachoshu" was published in Kansei 12 (1800), it is presumed that the introduction was several years ago.
