Shunbaisai Hokuei

Shunbaisai Hokuei (birth and death unknown) is an ukiyo-e artist from Osaka during the Edo period.

A student of Shounkosai Hokushu. They are called Harue, Hokuei, Haruesai, Harumesai, Harumeitei, Yukihanaro, and Haruyosai. The seals "Yuki at the foot", "Yuki over", "Koshiji no Mume", and "Fumoto no Mume" are used for the work. A person from Osaka lives in Itachibori 1-chome. The drawing period is about nine years from Bunsei 11 (1828) to Tenpo 7 (1836), and from Bunsei 12 it is called Haruesai Hokuei, and the issue of Harumesai is Tenpo 4 (1833) 11 I have been using it since the month. He was active at the same time as Ryusai Shigeharu, and in a short period of time he printed a large number of large-format actors' paintings, and it is said that his technique is sophisticated from beginning to end and there is no failure at all. In addition, he also works on illustrations for the roots of paintings. The year of birth and death is unknown, but one theory is that he died around the 8th year of Tenpo.

The disciples include Haruju, Hokuju, Kitayuki, and Hokushin, and the other painters who are presumed to be disciples are Northwest, Hokumei, Hokushu, Hokusaku, and Kitaki, but all of them were illustrious works. With the disappearance of Hokuei, Ryukosai Nyokei --Matsuyoshisai Hanbei --Haruyoshisai Hokushu --Hokuei and the mainstream of Kamigatae were cut off.
