Kikukawa Eizan

Kikukawa Eizan (Kikukawa Eizan, Tenmei 7 <1787> --Keio 3 June 16 ) is an ukiyo-e artist in the late Edo period. The ancestor of the Kikukawa school.

His surname is Kikukawa and his first name is Toshinobu. Popular name Omiya Mangoro. However, "Edo direction" is Sahanaya Mankichi. Another issue is Shigekusai. It was also called Kotamaya Hideyama. Born to Eiji Kikukawa of Omiya, who runs an artificial flower industry in Ichigaya, Edo. Later, he lived in Yotsuya Tansumachi, Kojimachi 6-chome, etc. Since his father, Eiji, was a student of the Kano school's Kano Higashisha, Eizan studied painting with his father and then with Suzuki Nanrei. In addition, he has learned the style of painting of the Katsushika school (Hokusai school) through his childhood friend Hokkei. At first, he drew actor pictures when he was in Kyowa, but in the middle of Tenpo, he created a series of two Onishiki bijin-ga, and since then he has drawn many bijin-ga. At the beginning of culture, when Eizan was 17 years old, he became independent as an ukiyo-e artist, and continued to draw until his death in 3rd year of Keio.
