Katsukawa Shungyo
- 1
Shungyo Katsukawa (birth and death unknown) is an ukiyo-e artist from the Edo period.
It is said to be a master of Katsukawa Shunsho and is called Tsuru Keisai. According to "Kenin Name Edo Direction", the common name is Shinzo Saito, who lives in Asakusa Kosukecho, and in the spring, a code is attached to indicate that he is not an ukiyo-e artist but a painter. The drawing period extends from Tenmei to Tenpo, and during that time, a large transition of style is shown. There are very few examples of Nishiki-e, and some beautiful hand-drawn paintings are known. "Beauty figure looking in the mirror", which is said to be the work of the Tenmei period, is a masterpiece of Haruaki. In addition, "Yusuzumi Two Beauties" is thought to have been produced during the Kansei era, but the expression of the face is somewhat reminiscent of the painting style of Utamaro Kitagawa at the same time, without the influence of Shunsho, who is said to be a teacher. In the 2nd year of Tenpo (1831), he drew an illustration of the mad song book "Tokitori 36 Kasen".
